IELTS ACADEMIC WRITING TASK 1
The bar chart below shows the most important causes of stress for different age groups in Canada.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

SAMPLE ANSWER
The bar chart illustrates the primary causes of stress among different age groups in Canada. Four causes are represented: own health problems, not enough money, working too much, and no particular reason, across four age groups (25–54, 55–64, 65–74, and 75+).
Overall, the main sources of stress vary notably with age. Younger age groups, especially those aged 25–54, report “working too much” as the leading cause of stress, with approximately 27% identifying this factor. In contrast, stress due to health issues increases with age, peaking at around 23% among those aged 75 and above.
Financial stress is most prevalent among the 25–54 age group (about 15%) and declines steadily in older age groups. Interestingly, the proportion of individuals citing “no particular reason” as their main source of stress rises significantly with age, reaching its highest point at over 35% in the 75+ group.
In summary, younger Canadians tend to be stressed due to work and finances, while older individuals report health concerns and unspecified causes more frequently.
