The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040.

The graph illustrates the percentage of the population living in cities in four Asian countries from 1970 to 2020 along with predictions for 2030 and 2040 .

Overall, urbanisation has increased in all four Asian countries but at different rates.

Malaysia had the highest percentage of urban population, while Indonesia had the most rapid growth. Meanwhile, the Philippines and Thailand showed more moderate increases. Malaysia consistently had the highest urbanisation, growing from 30% in 1970 to approximately 80% in 2020 and it predicted that it will continue rising by 2030 and 2040. The Philippines and Thailand had similar patterns, with both experiencing steady growth. The Philippines increased from about 30% early to roughly 55% by 2020.

While Thailand rose from 15% to over 30% in the same period. Both of them are predicted to be 50-55% by the end. Indonesia saw the most dramatic rise, starting at around 15% in 1970 from about 55% by 2020. This rapid urbanisation is expected to continue for about 65% by 2040.
