Golden tips to keep in mind to avoid last minute rush during IELTS exam

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test is widely accepted for studying, working and migrating overseas. The exam is conducted by IDP and BCD in different corners of the world, but in India only IDP holds the authority to organize it. The fundamental objective of this test is to make non-native speakers proficient in English Language on their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. A certain criteria are followed to give band scores to the test-takers and are accepted by top-notch universities in the nations where English is widely spoken. Therefore, a student is needed to perform really well and is required to prepare for the test diligently.

To enable you to boost your score, here are some key points that will help you prepare yourself for the best outcome.

1. Reach at least 1 hour prior to your exam time at the venue

You must visit once at least at your venue before the day of exam as it will help you know the commuting distance and time from your home to the test centre. Moreover, there are situations of traffic congestion many a times, so it is always better to leave earlier from house. Being late on exam day can snatch your opportunity of getting familiar with the environment and you can be even refrained from sitting in the test. Also, candidate has to fulfill some formalities at the centre before the exam, so reaching timely will help you do everything conveniently.

2. Have plenty of water

Staying hydrated is scientifically considered the best way to avoid stress. You must carry your own water bottles which are transparent and not dark colored. The latter ones are taken by the team outside the hall. However, if you have forgotten to carry that, don’t worry as you will be provided water at the centre too.

3. Take your meals properly and enough sleep the last night

The exam time remains approximately 2 hours 45 minutes for covering three modules as speaking is conducted separately. No breaks are given in between the modules. Therefore, eating and resting before exam is must as it will keep you energetic. Also, you will not feel lethargic. Tiredness might lead you to lose focus and will surely hamper your band score.

4. Wear comfortable clothes

There is no band score for wearing formals at your main exam day. So, wear something which doesn’t distract you and keeps you in comfort. Wear something decent to make you look presentable and confident.

5. Refrain from bringing mobile phones

Any sort of electronic gadget is not allowed as per the norms. Not even under severe circumstances, student can carry it. If you have that, you must submit it outside where the management team sits.

6. Don’t forget to carry ID proof

ID proof is the first thing needed and you must have that. You must carry your original passport and venue slip on the day of exam.

7. Carry your own stationery

Undoubtedly, you are provided pencils, erasers and sharpeners at the centers but it’s always good to carry your own favorite pencils, however during speaking module pencil is not needed as it will be provided by the examiner.

8. Don’t wear wrist watch

A clock is made available in the centre to check time as you can’t take your watch.

9. Use washroom before the test

Although you are allowed to use washrooms in between the exam, but we suggest you to use it priory as it will save your module attempt time. Also, 10 minutes prior to the end of module, a candidate can’t go to use washroom.
