IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You were hurt in a minor accident in a supermarket and you wish to make a complaint. Write a letter to the manager of the supermarket. In your letter:

-give details about who you are

-give details about the accident

-suggest how the supermarket could prevent similar accidents.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Manager,

My name is Aarti Sharma, and I am a regular customer at your supermarket. I am writing to bring to your attention a minor accident that occurred during my visit last Friday afternoon.

While I was walking through the dairy section, I slipped on some spilled milk that had not been cleaned up. Fortunately, I only suffered a small bruise on my arm, but the incident could have been much worse. There were no warning signs or staff nearby to assist me at that moment.

I believe this accident could have been prevented with better supervision and prompt cleaning of spills. I suggest that your staff regularly check the aisles for hazards and place clear “Caution: Wet Floor” signs whenever necessary.

I hope you will take immediate steps to improve safety for all customers.
