You found a wallet on the street. Write a letter to the local police station.

In your letter:

– Describe the wallet and where you found it

– Explain why you think it’s important to return it

– Ask how you should proceed to hand it over

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to report that I found a wallet earlier today on Maple Street, near the entrance to Central Park, around 10:30 AM. The wallet is black leather with a zip closure and contains several cards, including a driver’s license in the name of James Walker, along with some cash.

I believe it is important to return the wallet to its rightful owner as it contains personal identification and money, which the owner is likely anxious to recover. Losing such items can be very stressful and may pose risks if the cards fall into the wrong hands.

Could you please advise me on how to proceed with handing it over? I am happy to bring it to the station or follow any other procedure you recommend. Please let me know the next steps at your earliest convenience.
