IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Some people have benefited from modern communication technology; however, other people have not benefited from it at all.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this point?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Modern communication technology has undoubtedly revolutionised the way people connect and share information. While many individuals have greatly benefited from these advancements, it is true that others have not experienced the same advantages. I mostly agree with this view, as the benefits are unevenly distributed due to factors such as age, location, and access to resources.
On the one hand, communication technologies such as smartphones, the internet, and social media have made it easier and faster for people to stay in touch, both personally and professionally. Businesses now operate globally, and remote work has become a viable option. Students have access to online learning, and families separated by distance can connect instantly. These advancements have improved convenience, productivity, and global connectivity for many.
However, not everyone has reaped these benefits. In rural or underdeveloped regions, limited infrastructure and poor internet access prevent people from utilising modern tools. Additionally, older generations may find new technologies difficult to use, leading to digital exclusion. Even among those with access, not all communication is beneficial—some individuals experience increased stress, cyberbullying, or reduced face-to-face interaction due to excessive online use.
In conclusion, while modern communication technology has significantly improved life for a large part of the population, it has also left behind certain groups. To make these technologies truly inclusive, more attention should be given to digital literacy, accessibility, and affordability.
