IELTS Speaking Test

Do you still live in Rochester?

No, I haven’t lived in Rochester for a long time now, since I went to college. I live in London.

Do most people like living in Rochester?

I guess they do. I always wanted to live in London, so… my family still live there, but I guess it’s a nice place.

Why?

Well, it’s got beautiful architecture and it’s the home of Dickens and so there’s quite a lot of historical interest there and you’ve got countryside nearby and it’s easily accessible for London.

Do you think you’ll stay in London?

Oh, I don’t know. I’ve been here for quite a while now and although I love it, I can’t imagine spending my whole life here.

How often do you participate in swimming now?

I try to swim at least two times a week.

What equipment do you need for swimming?

The great thing is that you don’t really need any equipment apart from goggles and trunks.

Anywhere I am. I love swimming in the sea but mainly I swim at my local pool.

I don’t mind going shopping. I like to know exactly what I’m going shopping for, though, I like to get in, buy it and go home again.

Do you like buying clothes or goods on the Internet?

I’ve never bought clothes on the Internet because I like to try them on before buying them but I’ve certainly bought electrical goods and other things on the Internet.

What don’t you like about shopping?

I don’t really like big crowds of people and fighting my way through them to get what I want. I guess I don’t like paying for it all.

A time when I lost an important and valuable item was last year during a trip to a music festival in my city. It was a three-day event, filled with excitement and amazing performances.

The item I lost was my favorite leather wallet. It was not just any wallet; it was a gift from my grandmother, who had passed away a few years earlier. It held sentimental value, as well as some cash, my ID, and important cards.

I lost it on the second day of the festival. I remember feeling overwhelmed by the crowd, enjoying the music and dancing with friends. At one point, I took my wallet out to buy some food, and when I finished, I must have put it down somewhere while trying to juggle my phone and drinks. I didn’t realize it was gone until I reached into my pocket later that day and found it empty.

Losing the wallet felt devastating. Not only was it financially inconvenient, but the sentimental loss was what hit me the hardest. I searched the area frantically, asked staff if it had been turned in, and even retraced my steps, but it was nowhere to be found. I felt a mix of anxiety and sadness throughout the rest of the festival, overshadowing what was supposed to be a fun experience.

How do you usually keep track of your valuable items?

I try to be very mindful about keeping track of my valuable items. For example, I always have a designated pocket for my wallet, and I avoid taking it out in crowded places unless absolutely necessary. I also use a small pouch for my essentials when I go out, which helps me keep everything organized.

IELTS Speaking Test

Have you ever found a lost item?

Yes, I have found a lost item before. A few months ago, I came across a lost phone in a café. I made sure to hand it over to the staff so they could help the owner retrieve it. It felt good to help someone else, especially since I know how distressing it can be to lose something valuable.

Why do you think people often lose their belongings?

People often lose their belongings due to distractions or being in a hurry. In busy environments, like festivals or crowded places, it’s easy to forget where you put something down. Additionally, multitasking—like carrying drinks and chatting with friends—can lead to careless moments where items are misplaced.
