HOW TO WRITE INTRODUCTION FOR WRITING TASK 1?
You have to start your task one by writing introduction in any essay. As that is the highlighting statement of your task and it highlights what you are actually going to discuss in the upcoming paragraphs.
IELTS writing task one introduction usually includes what the given type of data is showing and for what time period. Your introduction exceeds with to 3 to 4 sentences.
In order to do this you need to paraphrase your task 1 question.
The graphs below give information about washing machine, ownership as a percentage of the population between 2003 and 2007, and by level of usage, for the years 2003 and 2007.

The bar charts show data about washing machine ownership, with a further classification by level of usage, from 2003 to 2007.
To write a good introduction, follow these techniques:
- Change introductory expressions
the graph/chart/table/diagram- gives information about/on
- provides information about/on
- shows
- illustrates
- represents
- depicts
- gives reason why (only if graph provides reasons for smth)
- explains why (only if graph provides explanation for smth)
- compares (only if several items are compared)
- Attention with word compare! You can say:
To cite an example: compares smth in year1 and year2
the graph compares the population in 2000 and 2013.

Paraphrasing
You can rewrite a phrase by using the word how:
- shows the number of people … = shows how many people …
- depicts changes in spending on … = depicts how much changed spending on …
You can rewrite a phrase by using synonyms:
- number of = quantity of (not interchangeable with amount of)
- spending = expenditure
- rate = percentage
- ratio = proportion
- information = data
- change can be sometimes replaced by increase, decrease or variation
- share = portion
- place = site
Time periods
- from 1990 to 1995 = between 1990 and 1995
- in 1990 = in the year 1995
- in 1990 and 1995 = in 1990 and 1995 respectively = in the years 1990 and 1995
Examples:

Contribution as % of India’s GDP
The bar graph illustrates the relative percentage contributions made by the agricultural, industrial and service sectors to the Indian economy between 1960 and 2000.
Over the whole time period, the significance of agriculture declined steadily while services grew in importance decade by decade. A different patterned emerged for industry, which initially showed a slowly increasing percentage but then plateaued from 1980 onwards.

In 1960, agriculture contributed by far the highest percentage of GDP, peaking at 62%, but it then dropped in steady increments to a low of 12% in 2000. The service sector, on the other hand, had a relatively minor impact on the economy in 1960. This situation changed gradually at first, then its percentage contribution jumped from 28% to 43% between 1980 and 1990. By 2000 it matched the high point reached by agriculture in 1960, showing a reversal in the overall trend
Industry remained a steady contributor to India’s wealth throughout the period. As a sector, it grew marginally from 16% in 1960 to exactly a quarter in 1980 then remained static for the next two decades, maintaining a constant share of the overall GDP.
