IELTS Speaking Part 3 – Techniques
When you end the part – 2 well than examiner start the part three and ask you a question you have no idea about and you freeze like a bunny in the headlights. So, what should you do to tackle this situation to answer the part 3. We are here to give you the life boat as we will discuss today about IELTS Speaking Part 3 – Techniques.
1. Ask the examiner to repeat the question – If you don’t understand the question asked by the examiner than you can ask him or her to repeat the question. This exercise will make you sure that you have understood the question properly and even help you to understand the question or at least give you time to think a little bit. So you could say to repeat the question. Or even if you actually didn’t understand the question then you can say “can you explain what you mean”? because you are asking to the examiner to rephrase the question. But you are not saying that “I don’t understand”.
2. Generate ideas quickly – This may happen with two reasons either you have not got any ideas or you have some ideas but you just can’t get them out from your brain. In the first case, when you don’t get any ideas is easy to resolve as all you need to do is to surf the internet or on other sources such as some news channel or any talk show. These types of programs have a wide range of topics and transcripts so you can also read and listen and will help you to enhance your ideas. In other case when you don’t get words to express your views you have to practice speaking on daily basis so that you can get hold on the language which will give you words to convey your thoughts.
3. Don’t speak to fast in follow ups – You don’t have to speak fast in order to get high scores in speaking. You need to show the examiner that you can speak freely on any topic so you need to maintain this even pace throughout the exam and if you think that it may be more difficult for you to talk on certain topics. You should start talking more slowly from the very beginning because you know some people speak fast and slow by naturally because some people are habitual of it. So you can pretend you are a slow speaker and try to speak slowly from the beginning to maintain the fluency.
4. Giving memorized answers is not a good idea – Many students memorize the answers and deliver the same in the IELTS speaking test. You should not provide answers that you have prepared beforehand. The examiner will figure it out from the speed at which you talk, your words and also your pronunciation. This way, you might even end up giving irrelevant answers which will result in a low score. That is why you should not prepare any answers at all! It is better to work on your speaking skills. So, talk and listen to native speakers and improve your vocabulary.
5. Don’t give short answers like in part 1. You should provide long and explained answers with 3 or 4 sentences. Try to give some reasons that will define your specific point of view. You can also conclude your speech with your last sentence.
Hope this article will help you to achieve high score in IELTS Speaking. Keep in mind that nothing will work if you will not practice on daily basis. So keep practicing.
Thank you :-
