THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT IELTS SPEAKING PARAMETERS AND STRATEGIES
Speaking is one of the main modules of IELTS, in which an informal conversation is conducted by examiner. Basically, it is different from other modules, because it takes only 15-20 minutes, yet applicants take it as hard nut to crack. However, it can be overcome by practicing and fulfilling the requirements of four parameters, namely Pronunciation, Lexical Resources, Fluency as well as Grammatical range and accuracy. So today we will discuss things to know about IELTS Speaking – parameter and strategies.
Fluency – it demands that applicants should be able to speak without taking any thinking pauses, without showing the efforts in a very natural tone. For acquiring this, having sufficient ideas plus good vocabulary are the cardinal factors for it.
Pronunciation – as we are not the native speakers, so it is arduous for us to adopt the foreign accent. However, a good pronunciation of words is quintessential for getting effective scoring. This can be improved by listening the English content such as Netflix series, English songs, movies even you can listen the IELTS listening carefully to know the pronunciation of words, which would be helpful for you to adopt a good accent.
Lexical resources- vocabulary is also paramount not only in writing but also in speaking, this requires the usage of some uncommon words without any repetition. In speaking, you can learn some idioms for the common expressions such as for happiness- over the moon, on seventh heaven, in the air: on the other hand, for showing the sadness, you can say the down in the dumps.
Grammatical range and accuracy – for fulfilling the requirement of this parameter, there is need to use some complex, compound and conditional structures and likewise, need to avoid the same kind of sentence formation. For example, there are various kind of structures, which can be used in IELTS speaking

Part 1 Tips
1. don’t rush and confused
It is just an informal conversation between the applicant and examiner, so there is no one else. Therefore, be calm and give the answers smoothly with full confidence. If you are confused and the question is unclear then you can ask the question again, there will be no any bad effect on our scoring. You can use below mentioned phrases for asking the question again: –
Could you repeat the question please?
I’m sorry, I didn’t understand the question.
In case you are unable to understand any meaning of the question then you can say: could you paraphrase the question please?
2. Give the clear answers to the examiner as per the demand.
There is no need to go off the topic. Just give the answer only point to point. One of the major points is to focus on the tense, as sometimes, the question is about past tense, but applicant gives answer in present, which is inappropriate. Apart from it, the question is about “you”, but students give reply on the basis of people, so, try to avoid such mistakes.
3. Develop your answer appropriately
Start your answer clearly with a direct yes or no, even you can use more effective connectors for example for saying yes- exactly, absolutely, without a doubt, definitely and so on. In case of NO, you can use: – to be honest, honestly speaking, to be frank, frankly speaking, not at all and many more. After that clear your ideas properly within 2-4 lines, as answers neither should be too long nor too short.
For example: if the question is:
Do you like shopping?
Instead of saying: yes, I like shopping……..
You can say: definitely, I love purchasing things/ I am fond of purchasing / I have keen interest in purchasing things.
