Strategy to speak on any topic in IELTS Speaking test Part 2
In IELTS Speaking Part 2 (Cue card), in this part you will be given a topic with 3-4 bullet points and you have to speak on the given topic for 2 minutes. You will be given a preparation time of 1 minute in which you can note your keywords and think about the topic. While speaking, the examiner can stop you in between. If you are fluent and your speech was flawless there is nothing to worry about it as stopping mid way will not affect your scores. The thing is that you should be able to speak on the topic as many students stuck and don’t even speak a single word in front of the examiner so today we will discuss a Strategy to speak on any topic in IELTS Speaking test Part 2.
1. Don’t try to be over Complex
IELTS speaking is the test where your speaking skills are judged and not your facts and figures. In this test what you speak is not judged but how you speak is judged. So, many students sit in front of the examiner with the mindset that they will give the information in an impressive way. As a result they make their information complicated by using some facts and figures and even they use vocabulary in a wrong way that results in the deduction of their scores.
It is highly recommended to use vast range of vocabulary not only in Part 2 but in whole speaking test but you should not even try the word whose meaning is not clear to you or you don’t know how to use the word in a sentence. Use the words about which you are clear.
2. Know the accurate meaning of Fluency
Many students think that fluency means speaking faster but this is not true and the right definition of fluency is to speak without hesitation. You can see the well known speakers they don’t speak fast but they think before speaking. It doesn’t means that you should take long thinking pauses in your speech it means to speak on the normal pitch so that you can get time to think while you speak. Moreover, when you speak faster you tongue can twist and the chances of pronouncing words in a wrong way increases. So you should be fluent and not speedy. Here are some tips that can improve your fluency.
3. Have good conversation
In IELTS Speaking Test you have a normal conversation with the examiner. To score well you should have a healthy conversation with him but some candidates get so self-conscious that they end up talking to themselves instead of the examiner.
Here self conscious means that they lack face expressions and body language. While talking to a friend we have eye, face and hand movements but during speaking test some students don’t concentrate on this things as a result it seems that the candidates is speaking to himself. So, assume that you are talking to a friend and not an examiner.
4. Correct Your Mistakes
“No one is perfect” so while normal conversation there is many words and phrases that we pronounce wrong. Identify these types of mistakes and work on them. You probably speak the same words and phrases in the IELTS Speaking Test and the examiner will deduct your number for wrong pronunciation.
5. Generate Ideas
When you get the task card, you have one minute to prepare. Utilize this one minute to think on the given topic and note the keywords which you are going to speak upon. To get ideas and elaborate is an art that can be developed by regular practice so practice a lot to develop this skill.
Thank You 🙂
