
Halloween Vocabulary

Eerie – strange in a frightening and mysterious way
Sentence- This place has a distinctly eerie atmosphere.

Elf – an imaginary being, often like a small person with pointed ears, in popular stories.
Sentence- In the Halloween parade many people dressed as Elf.

Enchant – to attract or please someone very much.
Sentence- King Arthur hid his treasures here and Merlin enchanted the cave so that nobody should ever find them.

Evil – morally bad, cruel, or very unpleasant.
Sentence- Harry decorated is house as evil’s house on the eve of Halloween

Eyeballs – The round part of the eye of a vertebrate, within the eyelids and socket.
Sentence- But be careful in case your eyeballs fall out!

Eyepatch – a covering worn over the eye to protect it if it is damaged or sore.
Sentence- In the early days of the Empire, Screed was a tall man with harsh, angular features and an electronic eyepatch.

Face Paint – paint that is used to cover a person’s face, or draw designs on it as a decoration
Sentence- The participants hid their identity by disguising themselves with fake beards , face paint, scarves and bandannas.

Fairy – an imaginary creature with magic powers, usually represented as a very small person with wings.
Sentence- She used to think there were fairies at the bottom of her garden.

Fangs – a long, sharp tooth.
Sentence- The dog growled and bared its fangs.

Fantasy – Fantasy is imaginative literature, often set in strange places with unusual characters and the use of magic.
Sentence- Sometimes reality and fantasy are hard to distinguish.

Fear – an unpleasant emotion or thought that you have when you are frightened or worried by something dangerous, painful, or bad that is happening or might happen.
Sentence- Trembling with fear, she handed over the money to the gunman.

Firefighter – a person whose job is to stop fires from burning.
Sentence- Several of the firefighters received commendation for their bravery.

Flashlight– a small light that is held in the hand and usually gets its power from batteries.
Sentence- He took his flashlight from his jacket pocket and switched it on.

Fog – a weather condition in which very small drops of water come together to form a thick cloud close to the land or sea, making it difficult to see.
Sentence- The fog is beginning to thin.

Fright – the feeling of fear, especially if felt suddenly, or an experience of fear that happens suddenly.
Sentence- You gave me a fright suddenly coming in here like that.

Frighten – to make someone feel fear
Sentence- You’ll frighten the baby wearing that mask.

Frightening – making you feel fear.
Sentence- It is frightening to think what might happen if she left him.

Frightful – used to emphasize what you are saying, especially how bad something is.
Sentence- My pulse quickened when I saw the frightful sight.

Genie – a magical spirit, originally in Arab traditional stories, who does or provides whatever the person who controls it asks.
Sentence- One day I polished Aladdin’s lamp, Genie said: I will meet you one wish. I said: Please bless those who are watching the message Merry Christmas!

Ghastly – unpleasant and shocking.
Sentence- She woke up in the middle of a ghastly nightmare.

Ghost – the spirit of a dead person, sometimes represented as a pale, almost transparent image of that person that some people believe appears to people who are alive.
Sentence- The ghost of a hanged poacher is said to haunt the manor house.

Ghostly – pale and transparent in a way that does not seem real, like a ghost.
Sentence- The moon was shining enough to give a ghostly luminosity to the buildings that crowded both sides of the narrow street.

Ghoul – an evil spirit that eats dead bodies.
Sentence- The Mayor looks at himself in the mirror andintovery ugly version of himself – GHOUL MAYOR.

Ghoulish – ugly and unpleasant, or frightening.
Sentence- It was a ghoulish and, I knew immediately, untenable situation.
