General Writing Task 1 (Letter)

You are unhappy with the road quality nearby your home. Write a letter to complain about the same to city Council.

In your letter

  • Introduce yourself
  • Describe the situation
  • ay what you want the officer to do for you

Model Answer:-

Dear Municipality Commissioner,

I am writing this letter to express my sheer annoyance about the road quality nearby my home.

My name is Virat and I live at 3 Sigma Society, Bandra (W), Mumbai 400 050 India.

The road starting from my society to the main road of Bandra is full of bumpy drive. This road is called “Linking Road”. This bad road has developed too many deep potholes and rough edges and now the monsoon has added to the predicament. Additionally, it is not for the first time Mumbai roads have been called out for being in a poor condition. Owing to the bad road condition, everyone has to maneuver their vehicles around these bumps and potholes leading them to the adjoining lane only to create more traffic. Because of this, vehicles burn more fuel than they should do to cover the distance.

It is time the City Council either repairs or constructs safe roads. Ergo, I request you to have the said road constructed with better endurance that could withstand all weather.

I look forward to hearing from you. My email address is Virat.Kohli@xyz.com

Sincerely yours,

Virat Kohli

Writing Task 2 (AC+GT)

All secondary school students should learn a second language. Do you agree to this statement?

Model Answer:-

The role of a language in the formation of a culture is vital. Since the world has various cultures, the understanding of other cultures free people form subjectivity and prejudice (=prejudgment). For this reason, I support the statement that every secondary school students learn a second language.

To begin with, this is the age of internationalism. All human activities such as education, trade and commerce are becoming international. People are tearing down the barriers of geography, language and culture. To cite an example, not a single region of the world can remain completely isolated.

In spite of that, every society retains some of its traditional ways of life. It is true that some cultures and language prevalent among very small groups of people become extinct. The vanishing of several tribal languages and cultures in India serves a useful example. However, languages and cultures representing very large groups of people resist changes to a very great extent.

Apart from that, a world inhabited by people speaking different languages is* certainly a novel one. The prevalence of various civilizations with their unique customs and practices is* a good source of reducing stress and tension. In spite of a very powerful and influential international language like English, each society gets indescribable (= impossible to describe) satisfaction that others try to understand its culture and language.

To conclude, a culture and a language are inextricably (=unable to be separated) linked. The destruction of a language ends in the destruction of a culture followed by people who speak that language. In order to reserve cultures and languages and to understand that variety is beauty, the study of languages is of great help.
