Sample Answer:-

The pie chart is a representation of the adult population in the U.S.A. based on race/ethnicity as per a census conducted in the year 1997.

The U.S. population is a mixture of Hispanic, non-Hispanic and ethnic groups. While the non-Hispanic whites constitute the lion’s part of the population, the ratio of the native Americans is negligible. More than three-fourths (76%) of adult Americans were white non-Hispanic at the time of the census. Of the remaining 24%, the black non-Hispanic race had the most prominent place. They numbered 11% of the entire population. The Hispanic (of Spanish origin) also had a sizeable proportion of 9%. While it is a matter of great surprise to see tgat the real native Americans, otherwise known as the Red Indians, was only a meagre 1%, it is a matter of interest to note that only  a marginal 3% consisted of immigrants from different nations all around the world.

In concluding, the non-Hispanic whites and blacks formed the major shares of the American population.

General Writing Task 1:-

A friend of yours is going on holiday soon and has asked you to recommend a destination.

Sample Answer:-

Dear………………,

Your delightful letter to hand. It has, indeed been long since I have heard from you. I  am glad to know that you and yours are doing well.

So you, with your family, would like to take a holiday somewhere and would like me to recommend a suitable destination? Very well. As you may know, it is going to be the ‘Onam’ season here in Kerala. Onam is actually a harvest festival, which denotes prosperity and plentifulness. The climate is at its best during this time. You shall not enjoy such sweet breeze any where else in the world. The sun is simply golden. There are any number of tourist destinations you can hire a houseboat yourself; it is once-in-a-lifetime experience. You can experience the lovely beach at Kovalam. To add further, there would be colourful festivals and shopping specially meant for tourists.

My family and I would like to accompany you, so that you need have no qualms about anything at all. Do let me know. We all send our love to you all.

Writing Task 2:-

Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree to this opinion?

Sample Answer:-

More people are now undertaking international travel than it used to be in the past. The growth of

business worldwide and the new international culture exemplify the merits of international tourism.

Although sometimes international travel has its drawbacks, this essay does not agree to the view

that international tourism causes more tension than understanding among nations.

The first argument in this respect is that international tourism contributes to the progress of

individuals and societies in many ways. Business and industry are becoming multinational. This

process has created countless job opportunities. A relevant example to support this argument is of

people working for multi-national companies. It has certainly raised the standard of life of many

in the developing world.

Another argument to support the bright side of global tourism is the availability of opportunities for

people from different cultures to get to know better about one another. This will help in removing

misconceptions ( = mistaken notion) about other people and their cultures.

On the flip side, international travel can cause tensions among nations. International terrorism has

become a menace to civilized society. Some people are unwilling to understand and appreciate

cultural differences. Unfortunately, such people engage in venomous criticism of others. How some

people criticised the United States and other western powers for the outbreak of the Asian tsunami

is a very good example.

In conclusion, international tourism is now unavoidable for various reasons. It has certainly

improved the quality of life throughout the world, although a minority is bent upon creating trouble.

Despite these occasional mishaps( = unlucky accident), people are in general, enjoying the boons

of international travel in a number of ways.
