How often do you use a computer?
Oh, I’m on my laptop at least 6 hours a day! As online IELTS instructor, it is invaluable. I use a laptop for everything from planning lessons to teaching over Zoom. Not only do I use it for work, I also use it to keep in touch with my relatives living abroad. Right now, I’m living in Vietnam while my family live in Ireland, so I contact them by email or facebook messenger.
Do you think it is important to learn how to use a computer?
Definitely, nowadays computer literacy is vital. A few decades ago, it was essential that one could read, write and do basic math. Although, these skills are still incredibly important, nowadays, I would say the ability to use various devices is even more valuable.

Do you have your own computer?
Fortunately, I do. I bought a laptop a few years ago. I choose to purchase a Macbook Pro as I’d heard lots of good reviews about that model. Because it cost a fortune, I was hesitant at first. I suppose this was because it was the latest model and included some cutting-edge features. However, I’ve had it for more than 3 years and it hasn’t shown any signs of age so I would definitely recommend this model to my friends.
How often do you cut your hair?
I tend to have my hair trimmed every three or four weeks. I used to have longer hair but it’s pretty short at the moment so it’s important that I get it cut regularly. Otherwise it looks messy and unprofessional. I usually go to a small barber shop that’s close to my house. The barbers there are really talented, I’d trust them with my life!

Why do people like to dye their hair?
As I see it, there are two main reasons people choose to have their hair dyed. First of all, everyone needs a change from time to time! I mean, people get bored of the same old colour. Actually, I’ve noticed that many young ladies have begun dying their hair bright colours like blue and pink. It’s a trend that seems to be catching on! Secondly, elderly people, both men and women tend to dye their hair to avoid looking old. I guess grey isn’t a youthful colour.

SAMPLE ANSWER
The person I unexpectedly became friends with is Emily. We met during a group project in college. It was a large class, and our professor randomly assigned us into teams for a semester-long assignment. Emily and I ended up in the same group, along with two other classmates.
Initially, I didn’t know much about Emily other than her name and the fact that we had to work together on the project. As we started discussing our project goals and dividing tasks, I noticed Emily was very organized and had great ideas for our project. She took charge of scheduling our meetings and keeping track of our progress, which impressed me.
What really made us become friends was our shared sense of humor. During one particularly stressful meeting where we were struggling with a complex part of our project, Emily cracked a joke that lightened the mood and made everyone laugh. From then on, we found ourselves chatting not only about the project but also about our interests outside of class.

Our friendship grew naturally from there. We started hanging out after classes, grabbing coffee together, and occasionally meeting up to study for exams. Over time, I learned that Emily was not only funny but also incredibly kind and supportive. She was always there to lend a listening ear or offer advice when needed.
Nowadays, even though we’ve graduated and moved to different cities for work, Emily and I still keep in touch regularly. We text each other updates about our lives, share funny memes, and try to meet up whenever we’re in each other’s cities. Our friendship has lasted beyond college because of the genuine connection we developed during that unexpected group project. Emily remains someone I cherish as a friend because of the bond we formed through a chance assignment pairing.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
Which one is better – being introvert or extrovert?
I think there is no definitive answer to this question as it is a moot issue and all of us have our personal opinions about it!
An introvert enjoys solitude and operates as a loner most of the time. Furthermore, he/she has only a few friends and doesn’t open up easily to others about personal matters. Great scientists, poets, artists and talented people were often introverts. Being an introvert means people will have more time to think and create something new. On the other hand, being extrovert means that someone is friendly, outgoing, sociable, affectionate and has large groups of friends. Oftentimes, they engage in different kinds of activities and they share things that concern them with their friends.
Regarding which type of personality is more preferable, I would say that ‘ambivert people’ is the answer to me. I don’t think that being totally introvert or extrovert is good, but combining these two types would be the most appropriate, at least this is what I believe.
IELTS Speaking Test
What type of person are you?
That’s a really difficult question for me and I confess that I haven’t even thought about it before! The truth is that I have only 5 close friends, they are like siblings to me and I discuss anything that happens in my life with them. I wouldn’t say that I’m always an outgoing and sociable person except for the times when I really want to.
For example, I am not the type of person who will go out every day and meet new people but when I was at university, I showed others the social part of myself in order to make friends. I know it sounds a little weird and creepy, but this is the way I am. So, I would say that I’m more of an introvert person, with some elements of extroversion when needed.

What important aspects do you consider to make new friends?
‘Friend’ is a sacred notion to me and they are as important as family. First of all, as I mentioned earlier, friends are nothing less than siblings to me and they are the people we have chosen to have in our life for whatever reason. A real and strong friendship should be based on true feelings and not on selfishness. Virtues like love, trust, honesty, compassion, affection and kindness are indispensable parts of this concept.
Moreover, being there when your friend needs you, help them whenever you can, console them when they get hurt and be happy with their achievements are some of the main characteristics. Everyone should invest in emotions and show them to friends in certain circumstances. Besides, if people don’t give and receive love in their life, nothing would have a meaning and I believe friends are there to do just that.
