VOCABULARY FOR INVENTION

Bionics: the science of creating artificial systems or devices that can work as parts of living organisms:

Sentence: Bionics may make it possible to replace eyes, ears, lungs, hearts and even brains.

Contrive: to invent and/or make a device or other object in a clever and possibly unusual way:

Sentence: Do you think you could contrive something for hanging my clothes on until I can get a wardrobe?

Blueprint: a plan that describes how to do or achieve something in the future:

Sentence: A blueprint has been drawn up for a massive new retail and leisure complex.

Customize: to make or change something according to the buyer’s or user’s needs

Sentence: Employees can customize the software to suit their needs.

Devise: to invent a plan, system, object, etc., usually using your intelligence or imagination:

Sentence: He’s good at devising language games that you can play with students in class.

Innovation: a new idea or method:

Sentence: Innovations in design are making artificial limbs more like human arms and legs.

Inventive: very good at thinking of new and original ideas:

Sentence: He is very inventive, always dreaming up new gadgets for the home.

Prototype: the original model of something from which later forms are developed

Sentence: Our first prototype digital camera appeared back in 1976.
