IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You stayed with your friend and by mistake carried home one of his objects.

Write a letter and explain:

– How you enjoyed staying with your friend.

– Explain the object which you brought with you by mistake and explain how the mistake happened.

– Mention how you plan to return the object.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear [Friend’s Name],

I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to express my gratitude for your hospitality during my recent stay at your place. I truly enjoyed spending time with you and catching up on everything. Your kindness and warmth made my visit memorable, and I’m grateful for your friendship.

However, I realized upon returning home that I inadvertently brought back one of your belongings. Specifically, I have your [describe the object, e.g., portable charger/umbrella/book] with me. It seems I mistakenly packed it along with my things when I was preparing to leave. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Rest assured, I plan to return the [describe the object] to you promptly. I can drop it off at your place this weekend if that works for you, or please let me know a convenient time for you to swing by and collect it.
