IELTS Writing Task 2

With the rapid development of vehicle technology, the emergence of driverless cars is no longer science fiction but a present-day reality. While some believe that autonomous vehicles will become the dominant mode of transport in the near future, I partially agree with this view.

On one hand, there are compelling advantages to self-driving cars. Firstly, they have the potential to reduce road accidents caused by human error such as distraction or fatigue. Advanced sensors and AI systems can process information more quickly than human drivers, enhancing safety. Additionally, autonomous vehicles can improve traffic flow and fuel efficiency by communicating with each other and adjusting speed intelligently.

However, several factors may slow down their widespread adoption. Firstly, the technology is still evolving and not yet foolproof, with occasional software failures reported. Secondly, the cost of purchasing and maintaining such vehicles may remain high for many years, making them inaccessible to average consumers. Furthermore, ethical dilemmas—such as decision-making during accidents—remain unresolved.

In conclusion, while driverless cars offer promising benefits and may become more common in the future, I believe that it will take significant time and effort before they replace human-driven vehicles completely. Hence, I agree to some extent but believe full adoption is not imminent.
