IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Some people think that printed books are no longer necessary in this digital era as all writings can be stored electronically. Others think that printed books still play important roles. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
SAMPLE ANSWER
In today’s digital age, there is a debate over whether printed books are still necessary or if they should be completely replaced by electronic formats. Some people believe that with the development of technology, physical books are no longer useful. Others argue that printed books continue to be important in modern society. This essay will discuss both views and give my own opinion.
On the one hand, electronic books offer many advantages. Firstly, they are more convenient to carry. People can store thousands of books in one small device like a tablet or smartphone. Secondly, digital books are usually cheaper than printed ones, since there is no cost for paper, printing, or transportation. Lastly, electronic books are more environmentally friendly because they reduce the need for paper, which can help protect forests and reduce waste.
On the other hand, printed books still have their own value. Many people feel more comfortable reading from paper because it causes less eye strain than screens. In addition, printed books do not need batteries or electricity, so they are easy to use anytime and anywhere. Also, some people enjoy the feeling of holding a real book and turning pages, which gives a more personal and enjoyable reading experience.
In my opinion, although digital books are more efficient and eco-friendly, printed books still have an important place, especially in education and libraries. Physical books help students to focus better and avoid online distractions. For some people, reading printed books is a habit that brings peace and concentration.
In conclusion, while electronic books are convenient and modern, printed books still offer unique advantages that cannot be replaced completely. I believe that both formats should continue to exist together.
