My full name is Surinder Kaur, but most people just call me Surinder. I think it sounds simple and easy to remember.

Yes, it does. The name “Surinder” means ‘God of gods’ in Punjabi, which reflects strength and spirituality. My parents chose it because it represents positivity and faith.

Yes, I really like my name. It’s unique and connects me to my culture and family roots. I feel proud when people appreciate its meaning.

No, not at all. I think my name defines who I am. Changing it would feel like losing a part of my identity.

Most people call me Surinder, but my close friends sometimes use a nickname to make it sound more friendly and casual.

IELTS SPEAKING TEST

Do you like using technology?
Yes, absolutely. Technology makes life more convenient. I use it for almost everything — studying, communicating, and entertainment.

What technology do you use the most?
I mostly use my smartphone. It helps me stay connected with friends, browse social media, and even learn new things online.

How has technology changed the way we work?
Technology has made work faster and more efficient. For example, people can attend meetings online or share documents instantly, which saves a lot of time.

Do you think people rely too much on technology?
Yes, to some extent. Nowadays, people can’t imagine a day without their phones or the internet. It’s useful, but over-dependence can be harmful.

What technology would you like to learn to use?
I’d love to learn more about artificial intelligence because it’s shaping the future. Understanding it could help me in my studies or career.

I remember a time last summer when the electricity suddenly went off at my home. It was around 8 in the evening, and there was a heavy thunderstorm with strong winds. Suddenly, everything went dark, and we realized there was a power cut.

The outage lasted for nearly three hours. At first, we felt uncomfortable because it was quite hot and we couldn’t use the fans or air conditioner. My phone battery was low, so I couldn’t even scroll social media.

Instead of sitting idle, my family and I decided to light some candles and play board games. We also talked about old memories, which was really enjoyable. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a peaceful and memorable evening.

Although I was a bit frustrated in the beginning, later I felt grateful because it gave us a chance to spend quality time together without any gadgets.

How often does electricity go off in your area?

Honestly, it doesn’t happen very often nowadays because the power supply system has improved a lot. However, during the monsoon season or extreme weather conditions, we sometimes experience short outages. These days, many houses and offices also have backup generators or inverters, so life isn’t completely disrupted. Compared to a few years ago, the situation is much better, and power cuts are usually fixed within a short time.

What do people usually do during power cuts?

It really depends on the situation and the duration of the outage. If the power goes off for a short while, people usually use their mobile data, chat, or scroll social media. But if it lasts for hours, many families spend time talking, playing indoor games, or simply resting. Some even step out for a walk if the weather is pleasant. Power cuts can be annoying, but sometimes they create a perfect opportunity to disconnect from technology and connect with real people around us.

How does electricity affect people’s daily lives?

Electricity is absolutely essential in our lives. From running household appliances and charging our devices to working online and studying, almost everything depends on electricity. If there’s a power cut, our entire schedule can be disrupted — no fans, no lights, no internet, and no cooking if someone uses an electric stove. It’s so deeply integrated into our daily routine that even a short interruption makes us realize how heavily dependent we are on it.

Do you think people waste electricity?

Yes, I believe many people take electricity for granted and waste it unconsciously. For example, some people leave the lights, fans, or air conditioners running even when they’re not needed. Others keep devices charging overnight, which consumes unnecessary energy. I think there’s a lack of awareness about energy conservation. Schools and communities should educate people about simple ways to reduce wastage, like using LED bulbs or switching off unused appliances.

How can we save electricity at home?

There are several practical ways to save electricity. First, we can make it a habit to turn off appliances when not in use. Using energy-efficient devices like LED bulbs or inverter air conditioners can also make a big difference. During the day, we can rely more on natural sunlight instead of artificial lighting. Additionally, regular maintenance of electrical equipment prevents energy loss. Personally, I believe saving electricity is not just about cutting costs—it’s also about protecting the environment and ensuring a sustainable future.
