PTE CHANGES AUGUST 2025: NEW TASKS, SCORING & TIPS

PTE CHANGES AUGUST 2025

The Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic has undergone significant changes effective from 7 August 2025, introducing two new question types—Respond to a Situation and Summarize Group Discussion—in the Speaking & Writing section. These updates aim to make the test more reflective of real-world communication skills. To help you adapt and succeed, here are updated tips for each section of the PTE exam based on the latest format.

Speaking & Writing Section Tips

1. Respond to a Situation (New Question Type)

In this task, you will hear or read a real-life scenario (like a phone conversation, work situation, or travel issue) and respond to it within a time limit.

Tip: Use a clear, polite, and natural tone. Practice short role-plays with a friend to improve fluency and spontaneity.

Structure: Quickly identify the issue → state your intention or request → justify or explain briefly.

Example:

Scenario: Your hotel room air conditioner isn’t working.

Response: “Hi, I’m staying in Room 402, and the air conditioner hasn’t been functioning properly. I’d appreciate it if you could send someone to check it. Thank you.”

2. Summarize Group Discussion (New Question Type)

Here, you will listen to a short multi-person discussion and then provide a spoken summary within a time limit.

Tip: Focus on capturing the main opinions, not every detail.

Structure: Begin with “The group discussed…” → Mention key viewpoints → Conclude with any consensus (if any).

3. Read Aloud

– Read naturally, avoid sounding robotic.

– Stress important content words and maintain good rhythm.

– Practice with difficult vocabulary and complex sentences.
