IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You are about to go on vocation for a month. A friend from another town will come and stay in your apartment. Write a letter to this friend.

In you letter

– explain where your friend can get the key to the apartment

– give your friend some instructions about using your apartment

– recommend some places to go

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear [Friend’s Name],

I hope you’re doing well! I’m excited that you’ll be staying at my apartment while I’m away on vacation. You can collect the key from my neighbor, Mrs. Collins, in apartment 3B. Just let her know you’re my friend, and she’ll hand it over.

Feel free to use anything in the apartment, but please water the plants every few days. The Wi-Fi password is on the fridge, and the washing machine instructions are in the drawer next to it. Also, kindly take out the trash on Tuesdays and Fridays.

While you’re here, I recommend visiting the downtown café for great coffee and the city park for a relaxing walk. If you love history, the local museum is a must-see! For a nice dinner, check out “Bella Italia” on Main Street.
