Do you like dancing?
I love dancing; I believe when people dance, they forget all their problems. Dancing also has a health benefit: it keeps your body fit. There are different forms of dance which people do to stay fit, like Pilates. I love doing Pilates.

When was the last time you went to a place where people go dancing in your country?
How can I forget this day it was Durga puja and I was in Gujrat at my brother’s place, especially I went there to celebrate Garba, it’s a ten days program of dancing during puja which starts from the first day of puja and continues till 10th day of the festival. And the best part was every day we were supposed to wear new clothes in different colors. I really enjoyed it a lot.
When was the last occasion when you danced a lot?
It was my farewell party in a club in Delhi. Everybody knows hoteliers love partying; they just need a reason to celebrate. It was my last working day at the hotel, so they planned a surprise farewell for me, and I really danced a lot with my colleague.
Have you ever learned to dance? Why? / Why not?
I never attended a professional dance class, but yes, when I was in school there, I used to participate in school functions on republic and Independence Day. Apart from this, I also used to participate in the school’s annual day function. I was always an active participant in all types of functions, and mainly I used to choose dance programs, so this is how I learned dancing.

Did you learn to dance? Why? / Why not?
Yes, as I mentioned in my previous answer, I was an active participant during my school and college, so I used to practice at home a lot so that I could give my best. So I can say I learned dancing myself.
Why do you think people love to dance?
I do not think people need any reason to dance. I feel when they get happy, they dance to celebrate their joy. There are many people who love to express their feelings by dancing, whether it’s a small or big happiness dance is always part of their life.
Do you think children love to dance?
I believe most of the children enjoy dancing. I have few kids at home who just need a reason to celebrate, and they are on with their funny dancing steps. But at the same time, it’s really cute watching them dance.

Throughout time, the possession of certain items has been linked to achieve a higher status or such as having a car. The ownership of expensive car brands indicates the financial superiority and marks an image in the mind of the people in the society. Therefore, in this materialistic world, people of different cultural and financial background want to have a four-wheeler.

In some countries, the majority of people cannot afford a car but with the emergence of options like car loans and the availability of second hand cars, everyone enjoys this privilege. Millennial today believe in giving a ‘good impression’ to others because of which they urge their elders to invest in fancy and latest models. Possessing a car has its own convenience, comfort which also comes with some liabilities like maintenance and environmental concerns.
Of course, my parents do own a car but I still prefer taking public transport in order to avoid the traffic on the congested roads of my country. Not everyone thinks the same way.
All in all, the utility of a car is replaced by the image and status symbol that it offers. With the booming economy and stagnant car prices, more and more people are getting influenced to purchase a car in the future. However, people consider ownership of expensive four-vehicle equivalent to a luxury. In addition, in the period of conscious environmentalism and hefty fuel prices, people must be more concerned about the pollution it causes rather than their own image and status.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
What kinds of things give status to people in your country?
Well! Education, wealth, money, large houses, luxury cars, fame, career are some of the things that give status to people in our country. Apart from those, luxury gadgets, political power, expensive dresses and publicity are often considered symbols of status. For instance, people with large houses in a posh area boast about their status and power.
It is not unlikely that people with fame and popularity also enjoys a different type of status that mass people can’t have. Jobs in important government sectors can also be a symbol of status in many societies, and finally, political power, though controversial in some cases, is also a status symbol in my country.

Have things changed since your parents’ time?
In terms of people’s status in society, things have not changed much between my father’s generation and mine. The status symbols I mentioned earlier were almost the same as they are nowadays. Expensive technological gadgets and new brand names might have been added recently as part of people’s status symbol; however, those could be classified as the materialistic achievement which was also present in my parent’s era.
Do you think advertising influences what people buy?
Yes, I think advertisement has a huge impact on people’s purchasing decisions. It is quite natural that many people would pick a product from a brand name they have heard than purchase a product from a company and brand they do not know about.
People spend a lot of time in front of their televisions or computers and they are knowingly and unknowingly being influenced by different advertisements and advertisers. Some advertisements even lure us to purchase products we actually do not need at all.
