IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You work in an international company. Write a letter to the manager for allowing extra hours off during work time to attend family celebration.

In your letter, you should

– Explain why you want to take a day off

– Suggest how your work could be covered while you are away.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Mr Brown,

I am writing this letter to ask for your permission to take off from 1:00 to 5:00 pm tomorrow so that I can attend the celebration at my home.

Let me explain that I have to go to the engagement of my sister which is going to be held on tomorrow. Thus, I have to be there so that I can help my parents if they need any thing. I want to attend the whole celebration as it is the most important day of my sister’s life. She also want my presence in whole function.

As I know that we have an urgent meeting with foreign clients on the same day of engagement. I have made an arrangement for that already so that our company’s work would not suffer. In order to perfect presentation, I had made an audio-visual presentation which is going to play at the time of the meeting. In this way, I had managed the work in advance. The rest of things would be looked by Mr Steven.
