IELTS SPEAKING INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO

What is your full name?

My name is Kagty Ryti.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Kagty.

May I see your ID?

Sure, here you go.

Let’s talk about music, what sort of music do you usually enjoy listening to?

Music is a medication to soul. My day starts with music and ends with it. It soothes, calms, comforts and uplifts the soul. It’s a university healer. I listen to soft rock, Sufi music, old songs and old country classics.

Has the kind of music you like changed over the years?

Yes, the kind of music I used to listen to has changed but all sorts of music genres (= category, class) are available nowadays on the internet. These days music is too loud, very techno types. I personally feel music should calm you, give you joy and bring peace to your soul.

Do you prefer listening to live music or recorded music?

I prefer the recorded music as there’s no disturbance and you can enjoy it at your convenience. In the short, every bit of music detailing is taken care which results into a worthwhile listening experience. In live music, more than music, you enjoy beholding (= seeing) the singer because of some reasons, either you like him or follow him for good reasons in life.

Do you think listening to music helps you study?

We’ve grown listening to lullabies (= cradle song) and nursery rhymes. When a child cries, a piece of good music is a natural pacifier and he may immediately stop crying so music is a healer. Music can enliven and enrich the lives of children and the people who care for them. Music does help to concentrate studies. Whenever I get bored from the extensive reading, I listen to music just to unwind myself before I get back to my studies.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Buying clothes for me has been the toughest thing to do. Not because it is something that bores me but growing up in an environment where I got them from others, I never knew how to buy clothes for myself.

The first time I came to a new place for my job, I had to buy clothes and that to all alone. That was a terrible thing to do and when I went to the shopping mall, I felt irritation. The people around came asking if there is something they can help me with, giving me options and I would just go and check them.

I scrolled through the entire mall for about 2 hours checking clothes there and finally picking a set of clothes. Only to realize after a few minutes, that I wanted something else. The cashier there was very kind to me. He asked me to buy those clothes and get them changed the next day if I wished to. And I did exactly the same. The next day I went to the shop asking for a change.

This time, the cashier and his team helped me find the right clothes for me. They were very patient and understood that it is indeed the first time I am buying clothes and it is freaking me out. After hours of trying, I came back finally to the first set of clothes that I bought for myself and fell in love with the shop.

The people there were more patient with me than most others. They waited patiently even giving me suggestions on what looks good to me and what does not. While leaving one of them said, “It probably was your first time and therefore was tough. But, keep doing things that you find scary or have never done before.”

That advice has been with me for a life.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

1. What do you think of the relationship between companies and consumers?

I think both companies and customers depend upon each other. Without sales, a company cannot succeed and grow, and without good companies, people cannot get good quality products and services. Thus, it is not surprising that the leading companies like Apple and Amazon also have the best customer service.

2. As a customer, what kinds of services would you expect to receive from a company?

I think companies should fulfil their promises most of all. For example, if companies make promises like one-day installation, the promised work should be done within one day. In addition, if the product provided doesn’t keep up to the standards promised, the company should apologise and reimburse the customers.

3. What kind of jobs involve coping with the public?

I think most service and sales jobs involve coping with the public. Services can be anything like car repair, product installations, healthcare services, teaching, etc. Similarly, although online shopping has reduced interaction, sales to a large extent still entail dealing with the public.

4. Why should companies react quickly when customers have difficulties?

I think it is important to proactively deal with customer’s complaints and difficulties because it can harm the brand reputation of the company, and in today’s competitive era, brand image is paramount to success. In fact, it is also one of the major reasons why companies today are taking on social responsibilities.
