IELTS SPEAKING INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO

What is your full name?

My name is Fulhito Fatima.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Fulhito.

May I see your ID?

Sure, here it is.

Do you like taking photographs?

Why yes of course. They are a way to capture a moment in time. Moreover, I like to be able to show them to people so they can imagine that they were there with me. As I’m a big traveler, photos are my way of sharing my experiences without words.

How often do you take photos?

I would say every day. I’m a big fan of selfies, so I often snap a few of them to send to my boyfriend every morning before work. Moreover, I take hundreds of photos when I travel.

In which situation do you like take photos?

Any situation! But especially when I see something out of the ordinary. For example, I like to take photos when the light is setting just right on my street, or when I catch a glimpse (a look) of two children holding hands.

Do you prefer to take pictures of people or of scenery?

Definitely people. I like to capture the raw (real; candid) emotions on their faces. I feel that photos of people can be quite powerful. Moreover, I feel that scenery photography never does the actual place any justice.

Do you prefer to take photographs yourself or to have other people take photos?

Definitely myself. As I’m quite picky about the photos that I take and post, I take this responsibility upon myself. Call me a snob (a person who feels superior to others), but I feel that most people don’t have any idea of what makes a good photo and end up taking unflattering photos of me.

SAMPLE ANSWER

There are days we never remember and the ones that we never forget. I have had some memorable days in my life and the one that I believe changed lot of things about me or may be made way for better things to come up, was when I got a job as a blogger. Initially, I had some blogs of mine in which I wrote things here and there but I clearly remember wanting a job to be able to earn money and I was rejected outright from many jobs, because the ones that I was trying to were of English teacher.

The other day, I went for an interview for a job of English teacher, the person directly rejected me but while turning the pages of my resume, he noticed the name of my blogs. On asking if I write blogs, he instead of offering me a job as an English teacher gave me a job of a content writer for his blog and I have been writing for it since past two years. The reason the day is still important for me is because it marked on a new journey, a journey where I realized that hard work is the key to anything in life and the perseverance to go through those initial days is what makes you successful.

There are days when I just don’t understand anything and days when I feel like a loser, when I get problems I have never heard of and those are the days when I look back and say to myself that if I could write about something I did not had a clue about, I surely can do much better with things, at least I have an idea of. It was that job that helped me become more confident, bold and hard worker. It taught me that there are no excuses, if you want to achieve something, you go about and do that.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Are the things or events that make people happy today the same as several decades ago?

Well, life has changed a lot over the decades. Technology has brought with it changes in the way people live their life. So, events that bring happiness have also changed. Earlier people found happiness in family get-togethers. Materialism was not that pronounced. But today people have become self-centered and have become workaholics. What they have is never enough and so they work all the time to fulfil those desires. So, they find it difficult to be happy.

Why do people feel happy when they are with members of their family?

They feel happy, because with their family they can share all their joys and sorrows. They know that they can take their family for granted and depend on them.

What are some examples of family activities that make people happy?

Some family activities that make people happy are eating together, watching TV together, going for outings together and doing shopping together.

Some people say the happiest time in people’s lives is the period when they are at school?

Do you agree? Well, early school years are definitely the happiest, because the only tension is of study, but high and secondary school years are stressful because one has to choose a career, study hard to get into the college of their choice and face global competition in academics.

Do young people and older people find happiness in the same things?

No, definitely not. Old people find happiness if they are with their children and grandchildren, but young people find happiness in their gadgets like cell phones.

When you are older, what kind of things will bring you happiness?

Well, I don’t know. What future has in store for me I cant foresee, but I guess if I am healthy and have just enough for a comfortable life, I would be happy

Do you think people in the past were happier than they are now?

Life was slower in the past. Desires were fewer. In that respect, I would say that people in the past were happier than they are now.

What makes people happy?

Happiness is a state of mind. Different people have different concepts about happiness. For a nursery student, being able to write ‘A’ properly can give happiness. A poor person may get happiness if he wins a lottery. A person suffering from cancer can get happiness if a cure is found for his illness. Parents feel happy if their children do well in school.
