Greatest 4 Major Problems in IELTS Speaking

Complication 1 – Speaking in haste

Students who have good as well as better flow in the speaking doesn’t speak very quickly they often have smooth spoken nature. This notion is always misunderstood that better fluency means very rapid speech.

Whenever you listen how native speakers utter or talk you will experience that speaking of them is normal, they often speak in a normal flow. One can listen to the native speakers through various modes such as radios, news or movies. If you would prefer all these types or other modes you can easily recognise what’s the actual way of speaking in flow

Practice makes a man perfect. If you try to speak in any language too swiftly than for sure you will lack in coherence as your brain can’t normally go with your mouth. Unite this with speaking in a different language under exam conditions and the result is going to be a dropping of coherence and lots of errors.

Elucidation – Emphasise on speaking composedly and persuasively.  Hearken to native speakers and try to imitate their pace of speech.

This will not only help your fluency, but will also give you more time to think of ideas and find the correct grammar as well as vocabulary.

Complication 2 – Endeavoring to think ideas

Aspirants often make a fuss that they can’t think of ‘good’ or ‘correct’ ideas and this causes their fluency to suffer.

This mainly happens by a misunderstanding of what is indeed being totalised on the speaking test. If you view the official marking criteria, you will notice that there is nothing mention for ‘good’ ideas. As long as you give an answer that is related to the question asked, you will be fine. It is not an ‘ideas’ test or an ‘intelligence’ test, it is a speaking test.

Dissimilar to maths test, there is no right or wrong answer. You just need to show the examiner your ability to speak.

Solution –  Don’t stress out with the quality of ideas work on quality of speaking. Converse with the examiner about what you know about the question being asked. If you know nothing, or very little, about the topic, don’t be afraid to speak in front of  the examiner.

This will not be a issue in Part 1 because the questions are all about you, so you will definitely have no problem thinking about ideas for that.

For Part 3, some of the questions will be difficult. You just have to accept this and try to answer them as best you can.

For Part 2, you need to have a structure…..

Complication 3 – Structure

Issue of structure relates with Part 2 only. Candidates need to converse for 2 minutes on the topic provided by the examiner. You will be given a cue card before your speaking begins for Part 2, just like the one below.

You are provided with general topic to talk about and then there are three or four things that they suggest you should talk about.

The matter here is that plenty of people run out of things to say and then their fluency normally suffers.

This happens for two main reasons. At the first place, number of people think that they can only speak about the three suggested things. It is difficult to only talk about three small things for 2 minutes. Secondly, most people do not develop any  other ideas or anything else to talk about apart from the three things on the card.

Solution – It’s important to stay stick to your point

Introduce the topic but you should not speak only that content which is asked you must add on reason along with describing the particular question in order to extend your topic and to add more clarity.

Give your opinion about the topic

Talk about the past, present, future of the topic

Give a description of the topic

Tell a personal story about the topic

When you combine these things with the things they suggest you talk about on the cue card, it opens up many more possibilities, allows you to structure your answer during the 1 minute planning time before you speak and ensures that you will have enough to talk about during the two minutes.
