It is generally believed that travel is the best form of education. Yet, some people argue that so many people travelling is bad for the environment.
Discuss both these views and give your opinion.
SAMPLE ANSWER
I fully agree that travel is the best form of education. Seeing different parts of the world and experiencing other cultures opens the mind up to new ideas and experiences, and also teaches us to be more broadminded and accepting. In addition to that, there is nothing better than being able to experience first-hand the natural treasures that exist around the world. We do, however, want these beautiful places to continue to exist, and by persisting in using fossil-fuel transport without thought, we are worsening climate change and putting our planet in danger.
The poles are melting, the seas are rising and warming, extreme weather phenomena are occurring around the planet is at risk. I am not saying we should no longer travel; it is too valuable a life experience to give up. What world, and the air is filled with pollutants. Complete wildlife habitats are disappearing, and life as we know it on I am saying is, we should rethink how we travel
Electric trains, cars and cruise ships cause less environmental damage, and we should be pressuring airlines to start using electric planes for short-haul flights as the technology does exist. It might not be viable for transcontinental air travel yet, but one day batteries will be light enough to fuel any form of transport. If people push hard enough for the technology to be developed, it will emerge sooner rather than later. Until then, why not rethink your next international holiday and go somewhere a bit closer to home? It might be good for you to do something that involves walking or cycling instead of flying.
In conclusion, I am a great believer in the educational value of travel though I also understand the damage that mass travel is doing to our environment. If we think more carefully about the transport we are using, we can find alternatives and do our part in acting responsibly.
