Formerly – in the past.
Sentence – The Orkney islands were formerly dependencies of Norway and Denmark.

New – fresh.
Sentence – Eternal truths will be neither true nor eternal unless they have fresh meaning for every new social situation.

Precept – a rule for action or behaviour, especially obtained from moral thought.
Sentence – Use of the equation is based on the precept that particles are dominantly spheres and are of identical densities.

Approve – to have a positive opinion of someone or something.
Sentence – When the time came to approve the proposal, there were one or two voices of dissent.

Before – at or during a time earlier than (the thing mentioned).
Sentence – Before gold, even kings takes off their hats.

Fanatic – a person who is extremely interested in something, to a degree that some people find unreasonable.
Sentence – Kiki was a Garbo fanatic and looked on herself as a femme fatale even though she was nothing of the sort.

Precedence – the condition of being dealt with before other things or of being considered more important than other things.
Sentence – Ceremonial and precedence notably lost most of the power to agitate rulers and governments which they had hitherto possessed.

Yield – to supply or produce something positive such as a profit, an amount of food or information.
Sentence – Ideally, the surface should yield slightly under pressure.

Economic – relating to trade, industry, or money.
Sentence – The recent economic crisis has led to massive layoffs.

Suggest – to mention an idea, possible plan, or action for other people to consider.
Sentence – The Minister established a commission to suggest improvements in the educational system.

Inheritor – a person who has been given something by someone who is dead.
Sentence – A small, detailed survey found that older inheritors tended to put aside much of their cash to benefit their own children.

Unusual – different from others of the same type in a way that is surprising, interesting, or attractive.
Sentence – If you experience any unusual symptoms after withdrawal of the treatment then contact your doctor.

Impasse – a situation in which progress is impossible, especially because the people involved cannot agree.
Sentence – As stockpiles dwindled, the continuing impasse in negotiations rendered military conflict increasingly likely.

Thrive – to grow, develop, or be successful.
Sentence – While the insects thrive, residues from years of spraying are showing up in the water and food that humans consume.

Successful – achieving the results wanted or hoped for.
Sentence – Behind every successful man there’s a lot u unsuccessful years.

Hypothesis – an idea or explanation for something that is based on known facts but has not yet been proved.
Sentence – The hypothesis predicts that children will perform better on task A than on task B.

Hard – not easy to bend, cut, or break.
Sentence – The chairs felt hard and uncomfortable.

Backbone – the line of bones down the centre of the back that provides support for the body.
Sentence – It forms the backbone of an important result in algebra, known as the Cycle Decomposition Theorem for Modules.

Constitution – the set of political principles by which a state or organization is governed, especially in relation to the rights of the people it governs.
Sentence – According to the American Constitution, presidential elections are held every four years.

Sunrise – the time in the morning when the sun starts to rise in the sky.
Sentence – The sunrise seen from high in the mountains was a tremendous spectacle.

Valueless – not worth any money.
Sentence – His grandeurs were stricken valueless ; they seemed to fall away from him like rotten rags.
