Enemy – a person who hates or opposes another person and tries to harm them or stop them from doing something.
Sentence – You are the greatest enemy if you are a coward, but if you are brave, you are your greatest friend.

Modern – designed and made using the most recent ideas and methods.
Sentence – Modern windscreens are made from laminated glass.

Uncommon – not seen, happening, or experienced often.
Sentence – It is not uncommon that a sunny morning will turn out to be a cloudy day at this time of the year.

Pressing – urgent or needing to be dealt with immediately.
Sentence – He was totally unresponsive to the pressing social and economic needs of the majority of the population.

Amateur – taking part in an activity for pleasure, not as a job.
Sentence – His success in amateur theatricals led him on to think he could tread the boards for a living.

To narrate – to tell a story, often by reading aloud from a text, or to describe events as they happen.
Sentence – One by one the witnesses narrated the sequence of events which led up to the disaster.

Possibility – a chance that something may happen or be true.
Sentence – It is precisely the possibility of realizing a dream that makes life interesting.

Abandon – to leave a place, thing, or person, usually for ever.
Sentence – don’t abandon a painstaking pursuit of the people, as long as you never stop pursuing, you will bathe in the brilliance of the dream.

Contrary – opposite.
Sentence – Contrary to popular myth , the majority of accidents are not caused by speeding or drunkenness.

Famous – known and recognized by many people.
Sentence – The palace is famous for its 17th-century painted ceilings.

Militant – active, determined, and often willing to use force.
Sentence – The group has taken a militant position on the abortion issue and is refusing to compromise.

Poisonous – a substance that can make people or animals ill or kill them if they eat or drink it.
Sentence – Poisonous vapours burst out of the factory during the accident, causing several hundred deaths.

Dirty – marked with dirt, mud, etc., or containing something such as pollution or bacteria.
Sentence – She immersed her dirty clothes in soapy water.

Help – to make it possible or easier for someone to do something, by doing part of the work yourself or by providing advice, money, support, etc.
Sentence – We need enemies to help define ourselves and our lives; they help us to know who we are not or who we do not want to be.

To intend – to mean.
Sentence – I intend to amortize the total cost of the car over three years.

Association – a group of people who work together in a single organization for a particular purpose.
Sentence – The sports association accepted the inevitability of a breakaway by the elite clubs.

Continue – to keep happening, existing, or doing something, or to cause something or someone to do this.
Sentence – It seems improbable that the current situation will continue.

Branch – a part of something larger.
Sentence – A bank’s local market share tends to be divided equally between the local branch and branches located elsewhere.

Fool – a person who behaves in a silly way without thinking.
Sentence – A fool may sometimes speak to the purpose.

Particular – special, or this and not any other.
Sentence – The weather presented a particular challenge, especially for American servicemen unaccustomed to subarctic conditions.
