The diagram below shows the sorting process in single-stream recycling. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
SAMPLE ANSWER
The diagram shows how recycled items are sorted in the single-stream recycling system. When the items are delivered to the recycling plant, they arrive all mixed together, and then they are sorted by machines.
First, a truck puts the items onto a conveyor belt. As everything moves down the belt, people remove the large items. Next, the items are sent to a screen. Pieces of cardboard move over the screen and are dumped into a container. The rest of the items fall through the screen. These items continue on the conveyor belt to another screen. This screen removes paper, while the rest of the items fall through it.
After this, a magnet takes out the steel cans, while glass bottles are removed from the belt and crushed. Now the only items left on the belt are plastic bottles. In the final step, these bottles move through an optical sorter, which sorts the plastic by type.
